LAMINATED GLASS
In buildings where safety is paramount, laminated glass comes to save the day. This is a special kind of glass that does not scatter at all – it breaks, yes, but it does not fall apart. During manufacturing process, two sheets of glass are made to adhere together using special adhesive materials. This glue is what keeps the glass from scattering upon breakage. It would surprise you to know that bulletproof glass is made from several layers of laminated glass – that is how strong this glass can be. The typical spiderweb crack is what appears when a laminated glass gets damaged.
This glass is typically employed in high-risk buildings or buildings with specific requirements like banks, recording rooms, hospitals, etc. Architecturally, you can typically spot laminated glasses in the skylight or glass flooring. Laminated glass is also employed where soundproofing is required.
